Patricia J. Gousie, MT, studied voice and viola and received her bachelors of music therapy from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA in May of 2000 and completed her clinical training at the University Hospitals of Cleveland in January 2001. In between her graduation and clinical training she began a music pilot program at the Arc of Hunterdon County, NJ There she wrote, received, and implemented a grant to use music with people who have mental retardation in order to bring about positive social and emotional changes, as well as educate the community on the talents and abilities of people who have disabilities.

In October of 2000, she won the Alex Ziring State Award on innovative programming for people who have developmental disabilities. Presently, Patricia has accepted a new position as a music therapist at the Kardon Institute of the Arts, Philadelphia PA. She is providing music therapy in early intervention centers, schools for children who have developmental disabilities, nursing homes, and in homes of seniors whose diagnosis may include Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and depression. She anticipates continuing her education by attending graduate school in music therapy where she hopes to begin research on the effects of music therapy on invasive medical procedures of people who have developmental disabilities. Patricia is getting married in June 2002 to her wonderful fiance Fernando. She is active in her church, enjoys painting, and loves her work in music therapy.
