- CONFIDENTIALITY ISSUE OF VIDEO TAPING CLIENTS AMTA clearly states that due to confidentiality video and audio tapes of CLIENTS are not to be sent as a part of an internship application. We honor that request. In order to have the most complete picture of each applicant we have found that a video is of significant help. We have listed several alternatives to create a video WITHOUT USING CLIENTS and ask that you consider them. If these options are not possible, please send a NON-CLIENT audio tape of a session (15-20 minutes).
You may ask a small group of children (2 or more), perhaps professor's children, those from your neighborhood or from your church/synagogue; or ask an elderly or not-so-elderly couple; or use a small group of college students. We are looking at your music skills, how you build rapport with clients, how well and quickly you think on your feet in response to your group, how you plan, transition from intervention to intervention and your leadership skills. Do your best. This truly adds to our awareness of who you are and what you can do. AMTA has approved this method. More About the Application Process Each intern applicant will have a personal, telephone-conference interview with all three supervisors. Once your application packet has been reviewed, the interview will be scheduled. During this interview, the applicant is expected to sing simple 3-4 chord songs with guitar and keyboard accompaniment. The majority of the interview is focused on the student's ability to solve problems and react to certain situations by introducing real-life scenarios that can happen in the hospital. The usual length of the interview is 45 minutes and time is provided for questions. There are four (4) music therapy internship positions available each year. Starting dates begin in January, April, July, and October. Interviews are conducted during the months of January and June. Applications due April 15 and telephone interviews held in May for selection of the January & April interns of the following year. Applications due October 15 and phone interviews held in November for selection of interns for July and October of the following year.
