An added benefit of the internship is the opportunity to observe a variety of healthcare professionals. This may include occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, respiratory therapists, child life specialists, pastoral counseling, nursing, EEG or other laboratory technicians, speech and language pathologists, and surgeons. During this 6-month internship program, each intern is responsible for completing a research project. They choose a specific population in the hospital, form a research design to measure the effects of music, conduct the study and write it in APA style complete with bibliography and data. Projects have been done with high-risk pregnant mothers, comatose patients, children waiting for surgery, adult patients receiving arterial line placement for cardiac surgery, and music-assisted labor and delivery. Interns also provide two in-services either to hospital staff or in the community. Click here to look at the projects completed by some of the previous interns.
