Rachel Abbe completed her music therapy coursework at the University of North Dakota, where she also majored in Piano Performance. She also studied voice and guitar and was a member of the UND Concert Choir and Trio Ferace. With these ensembles she had opportunities to travel nationally and internationally, including trips to the Netherlands and Japan. While in Japan she was given the chance to observe and interact with music therapy students at Tokai University, learning about the Japanese culture’s approaches and attitudes towards music therapy. This experience gave her a greater appreciation for the global applications of the music therapy profession.
Other musical activities Rachel enjoys include musical theater and music ministry. She has performed in many local and regional theater productions in North Dakota as an actor, singer, and instrumentalist. As part of a music ministry organization, Rachel had the opportunity to tour with two bands that performed for prison inmates around the southeast United States. This tour experience furthered her love for the profession of music therapy as she saw many ways in which this experience was relevant to her future career. Outside of music Rachel enjoys board games, swing dancing, and Geocaching.
Rachel is thrilled to be a part of the University Hospitals Music Therapy team for the next six months! She looks forward to serving the diverse population here and learning from a wonderful team of music therapists, and she is excited to continue developing her professional skills as she prepares to begin her career as a music therapist.
