Emily Darsie, MT-BC, MA

Emily Darsie has been employed at University Hospitals since April of 2003.  She received her Bachelors of Music in music therapy from the University of Miami, Florida, and her Master of Arts in music therapy from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Indiana.

Emily began her work at UH under a grant from the Kulas Foundation of Cleveland to conduct research with pediatric patients at the hospital.  She served as principle investigator on a study in the outpatient pediatric oncology/hematology clinic at the Ireland Cancer Center, where she is studying the effects of active music therapy on the coping skills of oncology patients.  She also conducted a study with pediatric sickle cell patients examining the effects of music and relaxation on pain perception.  Emily also served as a site-clinician on a regional multi-site study in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that looked at the effects of lullabies on pre-term infants, as well as on a national study examining the effects of music therapy on the coping skills of in-patient pediatric oncology patients.

In March of 2007, Emily’s position was picked up by Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, where she now works with pediatric hematology/oncology patients on the inpatient floor and outpatient clinic.  When she is not working, she enjoys traveling to visit friends from high school and college and returning to North Carolina to visit family.
